Year 10 Fundraising

Over the last several weeks, Year 10 students have been planning a charity fundraising project in their weekly PSHE lessons. As a year group they decided on raising awareness for breast cancer.

Year 10 students worked very hard alongside their tutors Mr Burrow and Mr Leveridge to produce pink ribbons and to create pink pompoms.

On Thursday 28th January Year 10 sold these to secondary school students and members of staff. This resulted in a celebratory non-uniform day on Friday where primary pupils joined in and donated their money for the cause.

AIS raised a tremendous amount, over 300 Euros!

Huge thank yous to all involved, especially the enthusiastic students of Year 10!

Year 4 being kind

Year 4 carried out an activity as part of PSHE and their lessons on being kind. Children had great fun working in teams trying to get toothpaste back into a tube to demonstrate how unkindness is difficult to take back.

Year 7 Global Minds

Year 7 have been studying the Earth and its physical processes such as tectonic plates, earthquakes and volcanoes. As part of this they made models of the make up of the inside of our planet. Didn’t they do well?!

Year 4 - Kandinsky Abstract Art

Year 4 has been learning about Wassily Kandinsky and how to draw Abstract Art. We had lots of fun and made lots of mess! / Year 4 han estado aprendiendo sobre Wassily Kandinsky y cómo dibujar arte abstracto. ¡Nos divertimos mucho e hicimos mucho lío!

Year 7 and 8 Mathematics

Year 7 and 8 have been looking at how to make healthy choices for breakfast in maths with Miss Flint. The students have worked out if their cereal or breakfast biscuits are considered to be high or low in fat, sugar and salt based on their calculations, the recommended daily amounts and government guidelines. We concluded that most breakfast cereals were very high in sugar as they nearly all contained more than 15%! They also worked out the volume and surface area of their packaging and constructed nets to scale. Great work all round!

Year 4 Science

Year 4 carried out an experiment in Science using cornflour and water to make a non-Newtonian fluid. Lots of fun and quite a lot of mess!

Year 7 Creative and Performance

As part of our Creative and Performance studies, 7Y took part in Script Writing this half term.  We were learning about staging and crafting writing.  Finally, we wanted to explore text to performance.  Due to the protocols in place at the moment, we were not in a position to act out our scripts in person so, we took on the challenge of creating our own theatres.

The students requested their materials and the creative process began.  Here you can see some of the theatres the students created.
It is a pleasure to watch the children’s words come to life on their own stages.

School Christmas jumper day

The students wore Christmas jumpers to school to remind us all about having fun ahead of Chrstmas.

Los estudiantes usaron jerseys navideños en la escuela para recordarnos que debemos divertirnos antes de la Navidad.

Year 9 have been playing the Ukulele

Year 4 visited Ancient Egypt!

We had a fantastic day where we dressed up as Ancient Egyptians and had loads of fun activities all based on the theme of the Ancient Egyptians. We even made some real-live mummies!

Year 8 Volcanoes

When Year 8 were Year 7 we worked on the topic of volcanoes, and the students made their own models, ready to erupt. Due to COVID, we had to wait but today we finally had the opportunity to see some eruptions.

A level science at AIS

This is an Y13 experiment the students can do repeating a classic experiment by JJ Thompson to find the charge to mass ratio of the electron.

The experiment uses a Cathode Ray Tube to deflect an electron beam by both electric fields and magnetic fields. Here is what it looks like when connected up. The green line is a beam of electrons that interacts with the low pressure gas in the tube. The beam can be deflected by magnetic and electric fields and when in balance enables the charge to mass ratio to be calculated.

First, I did two layers: honey and milk

Then I did 4 layers: honey, dish soap (Fairy), milk and oil. Although it didn’t come out as I expected because the milk started to sink down.

The second picture was taken just after pouring the liquids in and the third picture is 4 hours later.
