Primary Curriculum

Welcome to Almuñécar International Primary School!

At Almuñécar International Primary School we are aware that our children are at the beginning of their important school journey. We aim to create a safe, happy, stimulating environment in which all children enjoy learning and value their own and others’ work. We have a “family” atmosphere where children feel secure and confident to learn to their full potential. Visitors often comment on the warm, purposeful, enthusiastic ambiance. We have a well-deserved reputation for valuing each child, developing self confidence and stimulating creativity.

Our youngest children are welcomed into Early Years 1 at the age of three. Throughout Primary the children are grouped for many activities so that their work can be differentiated to allow for their personal experiences and understanding. At the end of Year 6, at the age of eleven they transfer, seamlessly, to our Secondary School. We recognize how important the continuity is from our Foundation Stage through the Primary School and into the Secondary school.

We offer every child a high quality, well-planned education, provided by a hard-working and committed team of teachers and support staff. We believe children thrive in our small, appropriately resourced classes, where staff use proven methods and provide excellent learning opportunities with the emphasis on a literacy-led, Creative curriculum. A great emphasis is also placed on Numeracy, Science, Information technology, and Physical and Personal, Social and Emotional development. We follow the U.K. National Curriculum flexibly (the Early Years Foundation Stage programme and the Primary National Strategy) to suit the needs of our learners whilst they also follow the Spanish curriculum which is so important for their future studies and as we would like each child to learn how to live in and be knowledgeable about their local community.

We are very pleased to welcome children from all cultural backgrounds, and our pupils come from a wide variety of different countries – about 12 countries at the time of writing. We have many staff trained in teaching English as an Additional Language which helps the children make very good progress. Support is given to children who arrive at the school with no English or who would benefit from it.

Our intention is to continue to develop an excellent school for our children to experience the very highest standards of education. We are constantly looking to improve our provision by further staff development, the introduction of new initiatives and by continuing our positive channels of communication between home and school.
