History is the story of the past. Discovering the real past is a problem as History contains many different and competing stories. The historian’s task is to assess and interpret the fragments from the past, and to view past events from many different perspectives. So our history teaching is rich in the development of critical thinking and thinking skills. We aim to give pupils the skills to assess the many and changing versions of history; the skills to develop their own version; and an appreciation of the importance of an historical perspective to our cultural life and development. Our stress on the transferable skills of critical thinking, problem solving, and literacy make History a valuable career orientated choice at KS4 and KS5. In class a range of different learning styles are used, in order to challenge and motivate students such as role-play, debating, historical games, computer simulations and creating displays. |
