Music

Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act. It brings together intellect and feeling and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development.

In KS3 all students learn how to:

1. control sounds through singing and playing – performing skills

2. create and develop musical ideas – composing skills

3. respond and review – appraising skills

4. listen and apply knowledge and understanding

During the key stage pupils will experience a range of musical activities that integrate performing, composing and appraising. They will respond to a range of musical and non-musical starting points, working on their own, in groups of different sizes and as a class. They will listen to a range of recorded music from different times and cultures, including the ´Western classical´ tradition, folk, jazz and popular genres, and by well known composers and performers.
