The school offers a wide range of subjects at GCSE and A Level. The links on the left provide details of each subject. English Maths and Science, along with Spanish, P.E. and either French or German form compulsory subjects for Years 10 and 11. Students in Year 9 receive a comprehensive list and guide to each course and the assessment requirements. The formal assessment of English throughout the senior school is divided into the interdependent components of Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing. Mathematics is designed to make students think. It involves a lot of mental work, whilst at the same time developing pencil and paper skills and the effective use of calculators. Students are introduced to Algebra and start to learn more formal methods of setting out workings. They are encouraged to investigate and work out their own rules. The science curriculum seeks to engage students of all abilities by utilising a variety of activities in each lesson; practical investigation, models, discussion, computer simulations, data logging and research, and activities which are designed to raise thinking skills. Students are taught to the National Curriculum requirements using a topic based system. From year 9 students start GCSE triple award Science. This has module tests completed in January and June of years 10 and 11. Each GCSE also has a practical, investigative skills assessment. Groups rotate between specialist teachers of, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and finish with GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

SPANISH CURRICULUM Our students from Year 1 take the Spanish subjects: Spanish Language and Culture, to fulfil the Spanish Educational Ministry requirements, in order to recognise their British studies for the Spanish equivalent. As our students have different nationalities, the Spanish subject lessons are divided in three levels: beginners, intermediate and high. Since academic year 2006-07, our students do not have to be prepared for Selectividad, but, in tune with the school’s policy: “quality learning”, our Sixth Form students still take Spanish subjects such as Reading and Comprehension, Spanish history and literature, to provide them with a wide knowledge which will guarantee their success wherever they decide to continue with their Higher education.
